Tento pojem m\u00f4\u017eeme rozdeli\u0165 do \u0161tyroch skup\u00edn: diagnostick\u00fd biomarker, t. j. indik\u00e1tor, ktor\u00fd dok\u00e1\u017ee rozli\u0161ova\u0165 medzi zdravou popul\u00e1ciou a pacientmi s konkr\u00e9tnym ochoren\u00edm; prognostick\u00fd biomarker, ktor\u00fd poskytuje inform\u00e1cie o v\u00fdsledkoch konkr\u00e9tneho pacienta (t. j. v\u00fdvoj agres\u00edvnej formy ochorenia); predikt\u00edvny biomarker, ktor\u00fd n\u00e1m umo\u017e\u0148uje predv\u00edda\u0165 odpove\u010f pacienta na lie\u010dbu alebo terapeutick\u00fd z\u00e1krok; terapeutick\u00fd biomarker predstavuje biomolekulu, ktor\u00e1 by sa dala pou\u017ei\u0165 ako cie\u013e terapie.
